Skin Care Tips For Women over 40

1. You can clean your skin, but you can't "deep-clean" it. You can't get inside a pore and clean it out like a dentist with a drill. Expensive water-soluble cleansers will not make your face any cleaner nor are they necessarily any gentler than the less expensive water-soluble cleansers. In fact, the handful of standard cleansing agents are the same across the cosmetics spectrum. What is essential is to find a gentle water-soluble cleanser that doesn't dry out the skin or leave it feeling greasy and that can remove eye makeup without irritating the eyes.

2. Spending more money does not affect the status of your skin. The amount of money you spend on skin care has nothing to do with how your skin looks. What you use does, however. An expensive soap by Erno Laszlo is no better for your skin than an inexpensive bar soap such as Dove or Cetaphil Bar; on the other hand, an irritant-free toner by Neutrogena can be just as good as or even better than an irritant-free toner by Orlane or La Prairie. Any irritant-free toner is infinitely better than any toner that contains alcohol or other irritants, regardless of the price.

3. Getting a tan is foolish. If you are exposed to the sun, even for as little as 10 to 20 minutes a day, which includes walking to your car or talking to a neighbor outdoors, that cumulative exposure over the years will wrinkle your skin, and no skin-care product except a sunscreen with a high SPF can change that.

4. A great number of skin-care problems are caused by the skin-care products used to prevent them. Overly emollient moisturizers can clog pores; temporary face-lift products can cause wrinkles because of the irritation they generate on the skin; and products designed to control oily skin can make skin oilier. Allergic reactions are often caused by products that are too irritating, too drying, or too thick and creamy, or that contain plant extracts and oils.

5. Dry skin doesn't wrinkle any more or less than oily skin. Oily skin may look less wrinkled, which means it can have a smoother appearance, but wrinkles are caused by sun exposure, genetic inheritance, or illness, not dryness. All the moisturizers in the world won't change a wrinkle, although moisturizers can temporarily make dry skin look smoother.

6. Your skin may become inflamed, dry, and blemished if you use too many scrubs, products that contain potentially irritating ingredients, or several AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) or BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) products, either at the same time or in combination with one another.
For example, the following combinations can hurt the skin: a granular cleanser used with a loofah, a washcloth used with an abrasive scrub, an AHA product used with a granular scrub, or an astringent that contains alcohol used with an AHA product. If you use too many irritating products at the same time, you are likely to develop skin irritations, breakouts, dryness, and, possibly, wrinkles.

7. Exfoliating the skin does not regenerate skin or build collagen. It is good to exfoliate the skin but exfoliation doesn't create new skin or get rid of wrinkles. It can smooth the skin, help it absorb moisturizers better, but it doesn't alter the actual structure of the skin.

8. For the most part, the fewer products you use on your skin, the better. The more you use, the greater your chances of allergic reactions, cosmetic acne, and/or irritation.

9. Do not automatically buy skin-care products based on your age. Many products on the market are supposedly designed for women who are 30, 40, or over 50. Before you buy into these arbitrary divisions, ask yourself why the over-50 group always gets lumped together. Isn't it unlikely that women between the ages of 20 and 49 have skin that requires three categories, but women over the age of 50 need only one? Categorizing products by decades is nothing more than a marketing device that sells products; it does not benefit the skin. Skin has different needs based on how dry, sun-damaged, oily, sensitive, thin, blemished, or normal it is, and that has little to do with age. Plenty of young women have severely dry skin, and plenty of older women have oily skin. Turning 40 does not mean a woman should assume that her skin is drying up and begin using overly emollient moisturizers or skin creams.

10. Do not automatically buy skin-care products based on your skin type. I know that sounds strange, but there are several reasons for this. It's not that skin type isn't important, but more often than not, your skin type is not what you think it is. Possibly your skin type has been created by the products you are already using. The only way to know what your skin type really is, is to start from square one with the basics: a water-soluble cleaner, an irritant-free toner (or a disinfectant if you break out), an exfoliator (such as an AHA product), a sunscreen for the daytime (which can be included in your moisturizer or foundation), and a moisturizer at night. If your skin is truly dry or you really are prone to breakouts, you can use a more emollient moisturizer at night, a more emollient foundation, or a moisturizer with sunscreen during the day. For breakouts you can try a stronger AHA product and/or use 3% hydrogen peroxide twice a day over blemishes.

A final consideration is that skin type may fluctuate. Skin-care routines based on a specific skin type don't take into consideration the fact that your skin changes according to the season, your emotions, and the climate. Don't hold fast to the idea that your skin fits into only one group-it changes, and so should your skin-care routine. That doesn't mean you need new products; it just means you may need to use less of one item or more of another.

11. Teenagers are not the only ones who have acne. A big fallacy is that women over 20 should not have blemishes. What a joke! Women in their 30s, 40s, and 50s can have acne just like teenagers. Not everyone who has acne as a teenager will grow out of it, and even if you had clear skin as a teenager, that's no guarantee that you won't get acne later in life.

12. Oily-skin types rarely require a moisturizer. Specialty products such as oil-free moisturizers aren't always good for someone with oily skin. Oil-free moisturizers can be good for someone with normal to slightly dry skin, but they are often a waste for someone with truly oily skin or someone who tends to break out. When should you consider using a moisturizer? Whenever your skin feels dry, particularly around the eye area. If the dryness is caused by other skin-care products, stop using those before you decide to use a moisturizer.

Skin care tips


For Glowing skin

* A facemask of egg white and honey gently removes the tan from your face.
* Mix oats with honey, yogurt and ground almonds. Apply this in your face, leave it for five minutes and wash with lukewarm water.
* Cucumber is a natural cleanser. Mix cucumber juice with milk and use it instead of a cleanser.
* For oily skin, apply a mixture of grapes, lemon and egg white. Leave it for 20 minutes and rinse with warm water. While lemon acts as a natural cleanser, grapes will soften your skin and egg whites will tighten it. Don’t be alarmed if your skin tingles.
* Cut the lemon and rub the wedge all over your face. Leave it for about 20 minutes, then rinse off with cold water. This will refresh your face. Avoid doing this if you have dry skin.
* Mix honey, lemon and vegetable oil .This mixture is a good moisturiser for dry skin. Apply this mask for 10 minutes.
* Apply the mixture of honey and milk on the face . This will make your skin glow.
* Prepare a mask by mixing a slice of pumpkin with egg yolk and milk. Let this mask set on your face for 30 minutes for a glowing skin.
* Mix half-a-cup honey to your bath water for soft and smooth skin.
* For a soothing body pack, prepare a paste of mint leaves and almonds. Mix it with warm water and apply all over your body. Leave it till it dries and rinse with warm water.
* Buttermilk dabbed on skin for 15 minutes will soak up oil from your skin without drying it.
* Carrot juice applied daily fades blemishes.
* For dark underarms and neck apply lemon juice mixed with cucumber juice and a pinch of turmeric daily. Leave this on for 20 minutes.
* For removing facial hair.. Apply a sticky paste of egg white blended with sugar and corn flour. When it dries, gently peel it off. Repeat this three to four times a week.
* Thin apple slices rubbed onto oily skin will help in controlling oily shine.
* For supple skin, apply a ripe smashed banana on your face for 20 minutes daily.
* Cauliflower juice applied on warts regularly will make them fall.
* For a fair skin, try this natural bleach. Mix orange peels (sun dried and powdered) with milk. Apply this paste for 25 minutes and wash off.
* Mix half teaspoon dried curry leaf powder with multani mitti (fullers earth) and apply on the face. Wash it after it gets dry.
* Apply the mixture of tomato juice and honey on the face and neck , wash it after 15 minutes.
* Apply the mixture of carrot juice and basin. Leave it till it dries and wash the face.
* Add two teaspoon of tomato juice with 4 teaspoon of curd and apply on the face.
* Add a pinch of yeast with 2 teaspoon of cabbage juice and apply.
* Mix 1 table spoon of barley powder with half teaspoon of lime juice and 1 teaspoon of honey. Apply it on the face and wash after 20 minutes.
* Mix pineapple juice and carrot juice together and apply it on the face and wash it after 15 minutes.
* Mix vinegar and rose water in equal quantities and apply.
* Mix curd and cucumber juice and apply it on the face.
* Apply the mixture of coconut water and thick pineapple juice.
* Make a paste with 1/2 teaspoon of milk powder, 1/4 teaspoon of egg white and 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice and apply on the face.
* For dry skin, Make a paste with egg yolk, olive oil and lemon juice. Apply it on the neck and face, wash it out after 10 minutes.
* For oily skin, take a mixture of oatmeal and egg white and apply it on the neck and face
* For glowing skin, use basin or green gram powder mixed with milk instead of soap.
* Apply the mixture of raw turmeric and cream of milk on the face and wash it after 20 minutes. It will make your skin fair.
* Apply the mixture of honey, basin, cream of milk and olive oil as a face pack.
* Apply the paste of fenugreek with milk on the face and let it dry. Wash off with luke warm water.
*Make a paste of red sandal wood and apply it on the face every day for glowing skin.
*Make a paste with red sandal powder and coconut milk and apply on the face for soft skin.

For Black Spots

* Make a paste with mehndi and oil and apply on the face
* Make a mixture of 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice and glycerin and apply it on the spots
* Apply the paste of turmeric and curry leaves on the face and wash it after 15 minutes.
* Apply a mixture of mehndi and turmeric. For a piece of turmeric, 2-3 leaves of mehndi are used
* Grind dried basil leaf, neem and mint (100 gm each). Add some turmeric powder and rose water to make it in a paste form and apply it on the spots.
* Grind betel leaf and add a little coconut oil and apply it on the spots
*Soak a chappathi in milk overnight . Make it into a paste and apply it on black heads. Repeat for several days
*Make a paste of saffron and add some honey , apply it on the face to remove black spots.
*To remove black spots... apply a paste of turmeric and basil.
*To remove wrinkles on the face, apply a mixture of sandalwood powder, rosewater and glycerin. Wash with cold water after some time

1.Caring Carrot Mask: Take a carrot, grate and mix it well with one spoon of honey. Apply this all over the face and leave it for only 15 minutes. Now wash and feel the difference after regular use.

2.Punch of a Pineapple:
After mashing up well a pineapple slice, mix it with the juice of an orange or a lemon and add all these ingredients with wheat flour. Apply this mixture on the face and neck. Scrub it off after some time, to get fresh and smooth skin.

3.Lemon-Egg Protector: Whip an egg white till it gets peak up and store it in the freezer for about 15 minutes. Now add the juice of a lemon and a grated tomato with this. Apply on the skin; practice the same for minimum of a month to get the soft skin.

4.Guava Grace: Mash one guava; stir it well with the mixture of oatmeal and lemon juice. Apply this now on the face for about 20 minutes and wash it off to see the better glow.

5.Spinach Support: Take a cup of raw pureed spinach, and one spoon of fresh cream, mix well all these and apply on the face. Leave it for about half an hour and wash it off to see the charming skin to support your great looks.

6.Ravishing Radish Touch: Take half grated fresh radish, one spoon of vinegar, one spoon of lemon juice and one spoon of honey. Mix all these ingredients in a glass of distilled water and store in a bottle. Wipe your skin regularly to shrink open pores and reduce greasiness.

7.Healthy Honey treat: Mix one spoon of honey with the white of an egg and grated potato. Apply this on the face and let it dry. Wash it off with cold water and feel the magic of freshness.

8.Marvel milk treatment: Mix together 50 grams dried pea powder, lemon juice, one pinch of camphor and a little milk. Apply it over the face and leave it for 15 minutes and scrub it off with milk. This is good for treating scars.

9.Strawberry silky soft: Mix well about 5 strawberries, one spoon of china clay and the juice of a small orange. Apply this on the face and scrub it after about 20minutes with a towel dipped in cold water.

10.Tomato and Sandal pack: Mix well one grated tomato, one spoon of sandalwood powder and half spoon of china clay. Mix again all these ingredients in rose water and apply on the face, leave it for 20 minutes. Wash it off to feel tightened skin.
